Overview

Brown and Caldwell’s Private Sector Business Unit (PSBU) is looking for a self-motivated Hydrogeologist/Geologist or Environmental Engineer to join our Phoenix Office. This is a position with excellent growth potential with the successful candidate contributing to an established team of hydro geologists, scientists, and engineers.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in field investigations, including water and soil sampling.
  • Assist with basic well logging and field data collection tasks in a supervised setting.
  • Help in the examination and interpretation of geological, hydrogeological, geophysical, and geochemical data.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures related to the role.
  • Maintain and update data logs of all performed tasks.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Entry level Geologist or Engineer role with basic foundational work in geology and hydrogeology.
  • Carrying out routine tasks, solving elementary problems, and learning fundamentals in geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, and geophysics under close supervision.
  • Typically a minimum of 0-2 years of related work experience in geology and hydrogeology or a related field is expected.
  • Encouraged to certify in the SMS framework within the first six months of the role.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
Skills and Competencies
  • Basic understanding of geology, hydrogeology, geophysics, and geochemistry.
  • Proficiency in using sampling equipment.
  • Basic analytical skills to interpret geological data and information.
  • Basic proficiency in using software and tools associated with geological studies.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Knowledge of local and/or regional hydrogeology.
  • Desire to obtain Professional registration in Geology or Engineering.
  • Experience with well design and drilling oversight.
  • Strong verbal and written (technical writing) communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with MS Access, CADD, ArcGIS, and/or boring log software (gINT or Log Plot), and/or aquifer test estimation software (AQTESOLV).
  • 340-hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) Certification.
  • MSHA Part 48 certification.
  • Ability to collect and maintain clear, accurate, and diligent field notes.
Physical Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Field assignments require the ability to perform physically demanding work.
  • Ability to work 8–12 hour shifts in extreme temperatures, including heat and cold.
  • Ability to wear required safety equipment at sites (hard hats, steel-toed boots or other toe protection, safety glasses, etc.).
  • Ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting field conditions and/or critical construction operations.
  • Ability to operate a BC pickup truck to commute to jobsites and to access work areas on site.
  • Ability to safely walk around sites of varying size with uneven, muddy, or rocky ground to perform inspections and take photographs.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to remain alert and vigilant around construction equipment and move quickly to clear potential hazards when identified.
  • Ability to climb stairs (2–3 flights) or ladders (up to 24 feet) to access structures for visual inspection.
Salary and Location

The anticipated starting pay range is based on location and varies with skills, experience, and education. Location A: $59,000 - $79,000;
Location B: $64,000 - $87,000;
