Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking an experienced Environmental Planner II (Transportation focused) to join our Arizona Environmental Planning team. The role provides technical expertise and manages environmental tasks for public and private transportation and infrastructure clients throughout our US West Region. This hybrid position is based in the Phoenix, AZ office and works closely with the Environmental and Transportation Planning teams.
Responsibilities- NEPA & Regulatory Support: Assists clients and project managers in developing and reviewing NEPA documents, including Categorical Exclusions (CE), Environmental Assessments (EA), and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), as well as state-level reviews for transportation-related projects.
- Technical Writing & Authoring: Supports the preparation of technical reports on topics such as biological resources, hazardous materials, land use, and socioeconomics.
- GIS Analysis and Mapping: Collects data, performs analysis, and prepares maps on census, land use, and natural environment topics.
- Permitting & Compliance: Assists in developing permit application packages, technical reports, and mitigation plans, ensuring accurate interpretation of applicable codes and regulations.
- Task Management: Maintains project schedules, facilitates status meetings, manages milestones, and coordinates with internal teams and sub-consultants.
- Field Investigation: Conducts field inspections to gather data for project development and environmental review.
- Data Research & Analysis: Gathers GIS data and produces reports, maps, and graphics on land use and socioeconomic issues to support impact analysis.
- Public & Agency Outreach: Develops meeting materials and supports public meetings by compiling results and maintaining records.
- Operational Support: Attends occasional evening or weekend meetings and travels to project sites as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, biology, ecology, natural resources management, or a related field.
- Two years of relevant experience or equivalent education in environmental or transportation planning with state and local agencies.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Four or more years of relevant experience.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrated experience with NEPA and related environmental disciplines for transportation planning.
- Technical Writing: Proven track record of authoring technical reports, assessments, or permit packages submitted to regulatory agencies.
- Field Capability: Ability to conduct field assessments in varied terrains and weather conditions.
- Agency Coordination: Experienced coordinating with stakeholders and local, state, and federal agencies.
- Technical Tools: Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Field Maps for data collection, spatial analysis, and environmental mapping.
Offered compensation ranges from $70,000 to $80,000 per year, based on education, qualifications, experience, and location.
