As a Sr. Advanced R&D Engineer/Scientist here at Honeywell, you will report directly to our Sr. Engineering Manager of Component Validation, and you’ll work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on a Hybrid work schedule when appropriate. External hires will begin with 90 days on site before transitioning to a hybrid schedule.
In this role, you will impact the development of cutting‑edge aerospace technologies by leading rig testing effort for advanced research projects, collaborating with cross‑functional teams, and translating scientific discoveries into practical applications that support Honeywell’s strategic objectives.
Responsibilities- Own all aspects of rig projects from design through fabrication, instrumentation, assembly, and test.
- Implement and update rig design & test best practices.
- Work with internal and/or external customers to define rig design and test requirements.
- Coordinate with specific engineering disciplines to perform required analyses of rig design.
- Manage and coordinate resources outside of group.
- Conduct technical reviews throughout project life cycle, including requirements, preliminary design, detailed design, and test readiness.
- Ability to track and follow through on closure of actions assigned.
- Provide status to internal and external customers and give presentations on different topics as needed.
- Lead team during rig testing lasting up to several months. The engineer must be knowledgeable about all aspects of testing and be able to make quick decisions.
- Support proposals/estimates for rig related activities ensuring they comply with customer and business requirements.
- Be willing to learn new skills across a broad spectrum of component validation testing to increase capability and effectiveness of the team.
- Present complex technical information clearly and effectively to diverse
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering, or relevant field.
- 5+ years of Engineering experience.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficiency in advanced research methodologies and tools relevant to aerospace technologies.
- Experience leading research and development projects within aerospace or related technology fields.
- Proficiency in applying scientific principles and engineering practices to develop innovative solutions and technologies.
- Strong technical leadership skills demonstrated through successful project delivery and innovation.
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical field.
- Several years of experience in aerospace research and development environments.
- Familiarity with other engineering disciplines such as Structures, Rotor dynamics, Mechanical Systems, Turbines, and Fans/Compressors.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross‑functional teams and influence technical direction.
- Innovative mindset with a passion for continuous learning and technology advancement.
- Experience in technology commercialization and intellectual property development is a plus.
