Summary

Responsible for providing structural engineering support by completing parts of large design projects or the entirety of less complex projects. Collaborate with project engineers and managers in the generation and production of structural calculations and drawings for projects involving bridges, walls, culverts, and other civil structures. Work with a team of engineers, planners, and landscape architects.

Salary Range

$95,000 - $120,000 annually plus bonuses, dependent on multiple factors.

Locations

Colorado Springs, Denver, Phoenix, or San Antonio.

Essential Functions
  • Perform in-depth structural calculations based on applicable structural codes and local standards.
  • Prepare computer-generated engineering drawings according to established standards and procedures using latest AutoCAD program.
  • Reference structural codes and local standards to understand requirements and apply them to design.
  • Revise or change drawings and complete moderate calculations with specific instructions.
  • Prepare project specifications, summaries of approximate quantities, and engineer cost estimates.
  • Create informational graphic exhibits for internal and external meetings.
  • Complete work within scope, schedule, and budget limits; estimate scope and budget for task order proposals.
  • Collaborate with team members to produce quality designs and construction documents in accordance with Matrix and Municipality standards.
  • Work collaboratively within larger group and multitask to assist others with project deadlines.
  • Prepare supporting calculations, construction specifications, and permitting in various jurisdictions.
  • Communicate as appropriate to project managers and team concerning questions, concerns, progress, and results.
  • Perform Level 1 quality assurance/quality control.
Competencies
  • In-depth knowledge of structural finite element and frame modeling software.
  • Outstanding knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience preferred.
  • Outstanding verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven environment.
  • Ability to take broad feedback and direction and translate into detailed and highly accurate plans.
  • Ability to manage data references throughout project duration, from preliminary design to final construction.
Supervisory Responsibility
  • Assign tasks to and coordinate with entry‑level engineers and designers.
  • Plan and coordinate detailed aspects of engineering work.
  • Assist with proposals, contracts, and client management.
  • Prepare scope, schedule, and budget parameters.
  • Mentor and train staff as needed.
Education and Experience
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited civil engineering program with an emphasis in structural engineering.
  • Professional Engineering licensure or ability to obtain PE within one year.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience with an emphasis in structural engineering.
  • Strong industry relationships and understanding of municipal, state, and federal criteria.
  • Demonstrated project and program management experience.
  • Valid driver's license and successful completion of the company’s MVR.
