Mechanical Engineer
- Power Generation (193814). HDR is an employee-owned company dedicated to an inclusive culture. This role supports power generation projects across utility, IPP, industrial, institutional, and municipal sectors, including traditional generation technologies and renewables.
As part of HDR Power Generation, you will coordinate with the mechanical team and other disciplines, support detailed design and owner’s engineer projects, and contribute to technical and contractual aspects of projects involving fossil-fired engines/turbines/boilers, solar, wind, and energy storage.
Responsibilities- Coordinate with project mechanical teams and other engineering disciplines.
- Monitor and communicate project status; provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects.
- Prepare deliverables such as construction drawings, bid specifications, pipe stresses, equipment sizing, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.
- Lead or support projects with pipe stress analysis, simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, RICE, CHP, and renewables.
- Travel to site surveys, technical conferences, client meetings, and construction observation (approximately 10% travel).
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license recognized in the position’s location or ability to obtain reciprocity.
- Experience coordinating work across teams and managing multiple concurrent assignments.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills; ability to lead engineers, EITs, and designers.
- Experience with utility-scale power generation systems; ability to plan, schedule, and lead design projects.
- Proficiency in preparing construction drawings, specifications, and analyses; familiarity with pipe stress, plant design software, and MS Office.
- Experience with project execution in the Power Market Sector.
- Ability to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs; willingness to collaborate across HDR offices nationwide.
- Experience with software such as PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, and Revit.
- Willingness to travel and work within established schedules and budgets.
