Job Responsibilities
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be joining a highly capable, multi-discipline team that supports power and energy projects primarily within the utility, IPP, industrial, institutional, and municipal sectors. Primary duties typically involve coordination with the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring and communication of project status, and providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level.
You will be supporting projects involving traditional generation technologies (fossil fired engines / turbines / boilers) as well as renewables (solar / wind) and energy storage.
Project roles will vary based on the size and type of the project, as well as the capabilities, experience, and preferred focus of the engineer. Roles will typically consist of lead mechanical engineer and project engineering manager. Most tasks will be done in a collaborative manner involving engineers and designers from several other disciplines. Communication, leadership, and organizational skills as needed to lead a team of engineers, EITs and/or designers is required.
The position will require travel for site surveys, technical conferences, client meetings and monitoring of construction. Travel is typically around 10 %.
Preferred Qualifications- Requires a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas or ability to obtain reciprocity.
- Ability to coordinate work with others and handle multiple concurrent assignments.
- Long‑term desire to be involved in leadership and/or operations positions.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Willing to work with project teams across various HDR offices nationwide.
- Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs.
- Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget.
- Ability to travel, on occasion.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P. Eng.).
- Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, and Revit).
