SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding its team and actively seeking dynamic individuals who are passionate about delivering high‑quality project work. Our Nevada team is looking for a self‑motivated Project‑Level Environmental Planner with attention to detail and strong communication skills. Candidates must be able to work with peers across various offices and complete tasks associated with a variety of projects each week.
Direct client interaction is essential.
The position is a regular status, full‑time, salaried role reporting to the Senior Planning Team Lead in one of SWCA’s Nevada offices (Las Vegas or Reno). Work may be based in the office, in a hybrid arrangement, or distributed for those in the West or Rocky Mountain time zones.
Responsibilities- Prepare environmental review documentation (EAs, EISs, state and local permits, critical issue analyses) for diverse projects such as renewable energy development, transmission, and mining.
- Lead, write, and manage preparation of environmental compliance documents for federal and state projects.
- Assist multidisciplinary teams in NEPA baseline studies, development plans, and client support.
- Support business‑line growth by developing planning documents (EAs, EISs, permits) for land‑use, generation, transmission, and mining lines.
- Provide technical assistance during key NEPA steps: pre‑Notice of Intent, description of proposed action, NEPA document structuring, public involvement, public meeting materials, record of decisions, and decision files.
- Demonstrate excellent leadership and professionalism at the project, team, and office levels.
- Support SWCA project managers on NEPA projects.
- Contribute to business development pursuits and proposals.
- Take responsibility for team safety, develop safety plans when applicable, and anticipate potential hazards.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, environmental science, biology, natural resource management, planning, geology, or a related science field.
- Four years of NEPA document preparation and environmental consulting experience on complex multi‑disciplinary projects.
- Working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations such as NEPA, FLPMA, CWA, ESA, NHPA.
- Understanding of agency internal processes and positive relationships with federal land management and regulatory agencies including BLM, BIA, USFS, NPS, BOR, FERC, NRCS, and USFWS.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, attention to detail, and schedule and budget management skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet SWCA’s driver requirements.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree in environmental planning, environmental science, or a related field.
- Five to seven years of planning or NEPA document preparation experience in environmental consulting.
- Experience with public‑land projects, wind and solar, transportation, or oil and gas projects in the western United States.
- Experience supporting business development with federal agencies and non‑federal applicants seeking permits or leases from federal agencies.

SalaryProject Environmental Planner: $74,963.20 – $97,011.20 annually
Associate Project Environmental Planner: $66,144.00 – $84,884.80 annually
