As a Senior Advanced Systems/Product Engineer within the Propulsion and APU Product Definition group, you will engage in turbofan, turboshaft, APU and other advanced technology concept studies along with competitive and roadmap assessments. In this role you will impact the advancement of existing and new technologies and shape the future of our Propulsion and APU products from early‑phase concepts through development.
Your system engineering expertise will be integral in developing and optimizing conceptual propulsion and APU system studies that are part of IPDS Phase 0–2A (early‑phase product development). Turbofan activity is currently focused on early‑phase development of the HTF‑NG (Honeywell Turbofan‑Next Generation) concept, while APU activity focuses on wide and narrow body applications, small APU growth, and roadmap assessments. You will support and report out to key stakeholders within the Engines and Power Systems organization, including Business, Project, Technical, and Advanced Technology teams.
Responsibilities- Conduct advanced technology concept studies focusing on fan systems, shafts, and APUs to drive innovation and improve product performance.
- Develop clear problem statements for technical disciplines and coordinate associated projects.
- Conduct architecture trade studies to develop technically optimized system‑based solutions that address market needs, maximize customer value, and support the aerospace strategic plan.
- Evaluate new concepts, practices, and approaches.
- Evaluate and assess the next best alternative via competitive research and modeling.
- Assess customer value proposition.
- Develop technical proposal offerings.
- Exercise project management skills including planning, estimating and scheduling.
- Prepare and conduct project status presentations for leadership and external customers.
- Motivate cross‑functional teams using interpersonal skills.
- Form strong working relationships with team members and customers.
- Take prudent risks, use appropriate assertiveness, and resolve conflict tactfully and effectively.
- Display intense commitment and sense of urgency to exceed customer expectations.
- Prior experience in early phase, R&D, NPI and/or product development is of value.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics.
- 6+ years of Systems Engineering experience.
- Strong understanding of turbine engine design and technology, founded on a command of engineering fundamentals.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or related.
- Prior experience with propulsion, APU and shaft configuration/trade studies is of value.
- Experience in early phase, R&D, NPI, and/or product development is of value.
- Specialization in at least one aspect of gas turbine design/technology.
- Experience generating Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for government programs is of value.
- Experience creating proposals and working directly with external customers is of value.
- Well versed in gas turbine engine competitor products, technologies and industry trends.
- Strong decision‑making capability, even with limited or ambiguous information.
- Experience working in teams; demonstrated leadership attributes preferred.
- Able to identify key factors in complex tradeoffs; assess them effectively to identify optimum system solutions.
- Mechanical systems experience and perspective is desirable to provide solutions that capitalize on the breadth and depth of Honeywell's product portfolio.
