Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client, a leading aerospace and defense technology organization, is seeking a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. You will be part of the Engineering Department supporting cross-functional teams including Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Product Development. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and outstanding cross-functional collaboration skills that will align successfully within the organization.

Pay Range: $75.00 –82.00 /hour

What's the Job?

  • Lead the mechanical design and development of advanced aerospace components and systems from concept through production.
  • Perform rotor dynamics, shafting structural analyses, and FEA to support high-performance rotating equipment designs.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and customers to ensure design feasibility and compliance with aerospace standards.
  • Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and failure mode analyses while developing detailed engineering documentation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across mechanical design projects.

What's Needed?

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience performing Rotor Dynamics analysis, including critical speed prediction, Campbell diagrams (whirl speed maps), and imbalance response analysis for rotating equipment such as fans, compressors, or turbines.
  • Strong proficiency with ANSYS APDL or ANSYS Workbench, including 1D Beam-based FEA techniques.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical design engineering within the aerospace industry or a related high-performance engineering environment.
  • Proven leadership experience leading design reviews, managing engineering projects, and mentoring technical teams.
