Senior Rotor Dynamics Engineer – Aerospace | ANSYS | Turbo machinery

Immediate need for a talented Senior Rotor Dynamics Engineer – Aerospace | ANSYS | Turbo machinery. This is a 06+ Months Contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Phoenix, AZ (Onsite).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced Rotor Dynamics/Rotor dynamics and shafting structural analyses for aerospace rotating systems.
  • Analyze high-speed rotating components and systems including fans, compressors, turbines, rotors, shafts, and associated turbo machinery.
  • Predict critical speeds, natural frequencies, mode shapes, rotor stability, dynamic response, and vibration behavior.
  • Develop and interpret Campbell diagrams, whirl-speed maps, and rotor dynamic response plots.
  • Evaluate rotor response to imbalance/unbalance, including predicted displacement, force, and moment.
  • Develop and execute 1D beam-based FEA models for rotor and shafting systems.
  • Perform finite element analysis using ANSYS APDL and/or ANSYS Workbench.
  • Apply structural mechanics and dynamic analysis techniques to support complex aerospace mechanical designs.
  • Develop engineering models, establish appropriate assumptions and boundary conditions, execute analyses, interpret results, and make technically sound design recommendations.
  • Support mechanical design and development activities for complex aerospace components and systems.
  • Identify design risks and perform engineering risk assessments to ensure robust system performance.
  • Lead and participate in technical and mechanical design reviews, presenting analysis methodology, results, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Work closely with mechanical, structural, systems, manufacturing, materials, testing, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior and less-experienced engineers.
  • Support component and system testing, including analysis of test results and correlation of analytical models with physical test data.
  • Support design optimization, tolerance analysis, design for manufacturability, and mechanical testing activities.
  • Prepare technical documentation, engineering reports, analysis results, and design-review materials.
  • Utilize applicable PLM and engineering documentation systems throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Ensure analysis and design activities comply with applicable aerospace engineering processes, standards, and certification requirements.

Key Requirements and Technology

Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of Rotor Dynamics/Rotor dynamics engineering experience.
  • Extensive experience performing Rotor Dynamics analysis on complex rotating machinery.
  • Professional experience within aerospace, aircraft engines, gas turbines, turbo machinery, or another highly engineered rotating-equipment environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Critical speed analysis
    • Campbell diagrams
    • Whirl-speed maps
    • Rotor vibration/dynamic response
    • Rotor imbalance/unbalance response
    • Displacement, force, and moment prediction
    • Rotor stability
    • Shafting structural analysis
  • Strong proficiency with ANSYS APDL and/or ANSYS Workbench.
  • Strong experience with 1D beam-based FEA techniques.
  • Strong understanding of structural dynamics, vibration, finite element methods, and mechanical design principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently perform complex engineering analysis and translate results into design recommendations.
  • Experience leading design reviews and technical reviews.
  • Experience performing engineering risk assessments and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Proven leadership experience managing or technically leading mechanical engineering projects in aerospace or a comparable environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with jet engine turbo machinery and aircraft propulsion systems.
