Principal Geotechnical / Dams Engineer – Phoenix, AZ.
Job DescriptionAECOM is soliciting a Principal Geotechnical/Dams Engineer for its Phoenix, AZ. office. The incumbent will lead geotechnical engineering projects, oversee field investigations, and provide technical support and business development for dams and related infrastructure.
Responsibilities- Lead the Geotechnical Engineering Team as a Principal Engineer.
- Plan and oversee field exploration, characterization, and laboratory testing of soil and rock materials.
- Provide technical support to dams Project Managers in design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance.
- Provide project management support as Deputy Project Manager: client management, contract management, planning and execution, and financial management.
- Oversee slope stability and seepage analyses and design slope‑stabilization measures for dams, spillways, and levees.
- Oversee dam construction activities.
- Supervise preparation of technical reports, independent dam safety inspections, and potential failure‑mode analyses.
- Conduct independent technical reviews.
- Mentor and develop junior staff.
- Drive business development for existing and new clients.
- Ensure the quality of project deliverables.
- Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS +8 years related experience or equivalent.
- Professional Engineer’s license (PE).
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
- 8+ years experience with dam projects, including inspection, rehabilitation, new design, and construction.
- PE registration in Arizona.
- 15+ years of experience.
- Knowledge of relevant building code provisions.
- Strong commitment to ensuring safe project execution.
- Local travel required.
- Experience with local permitting jurisdictions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future.
- US Citizenship is a requirement for this role.
