Our client, a leading aerospace and defense technology organization
, is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer
to join their team. You will be part of the Engineering Department supporting advanced aerospace propulsion and rotating machinery programs. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, leadership capabilities, and attention to detail, which will align successfully in the organization.

Location:Phoenix, AZ
Pay Range:$83.00 - $95.00/hour
What's the Job?
- Lead mechanical design and rotor dynamics analysis for aerospace rotating systems, including fans, compressors, and turbines.
- Perform critical speed analysis, whirl speed mapping (Campbell diagrams), and imbalance response predictions including displacement, force, and moment evaluations.
- Utilize ANSYS APDL, ANSYS Workbench, and 1D Beam-based FEA techniques to support component and system design.
- Lead design reviews, conduct risk assessments, and provide technical mentorship to engineering teams.
- Manage complex mechanical design projects while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle.
What's Needed?
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Extensive experience in rotor dynamics and mechanical design engineering within aerospace or related industries, including at least 10 years conducting rotor dynamics analyses.
- Proficiency with FEA software such as ANSYS APDL and/or ANSYS Workbench, including 1D Beam-based FEA techniques.
- Strong expertise in rotor dynamics, shafting structural analyses, and rotating equipment behavior.
- Proven leadership experience leading aerospace mechanical design projects, design reviews, and engineering teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Familiarity with systems engineering principles and cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools and aerospace certification processes.
- Knowledge of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and standards such as AS9100 and MIL-STD.
- Experience with design for manufacturability, tolerance analysis, and mechanical testing methodologies.
