Job Overview
CLA is seeking a Controller with experience in the nonprofit industry to join our CAAS (Client Accounting & Advisory Services) practice based in Albuquerque, NM. The role involves working independently at client locations, supervising engagement teams, and delivering timely financial statements to client leadership.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures.
- Coordinate financial planning, budgeting, and procurement activities.
- Prepare financial statements, business activity reports, and regulatory agency reports.
- Evaluate procurement needs and recommend investment options.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and ratios.
- Assess performance of accounting and financial staff and implement improvement actions.
- Advise management on short‑term and long‑term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
- Communicate regularly with boards, bankers, investors, and constituents; host board presentations as needed.
- Required:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. CPA certification preferred. - Required:
Six years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience, with nonprofit industry experience highly preferred. - Required:
Strong proficiency with accounting software;
Quick Books experience preferred. - Required:
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other applicable software. - Travel:
Occasional local travel to client sites; occasional non‑local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings, and other business purposes.
- Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS).
- Strong organization and goal orientation.
- Ability to handle pressure and maintain a positive professional manner.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and value diverse contributions.
- Proven success in managing client relationships to exceed expectations.
