SUMMARYThis role of Controller is responsible for the overall management of the Accounting Department which includes development, implementation and maintenance of all accounting systems and practices. Provides technical expertise and leadership to the accounting staff and overall firm in the areas of financial reporting, systems and practices. Assists the Chief Operations Officer with improvements to the budgeting process, reports, and forecasts.
ACCOUNTABILITIES FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT- Plan, direct, and coordinate accounting procedures, processes, and policies.
- Monitor accounts payable, aged receivables, payroll.
- Monitor project accounting, including project set-up, invoicing, subconsultant contracting, and certificate of insurance management.
- Responsible for accurate and consistent financial reporting.
- Responsible for cash management.
- Generate financial analysis for management decisions.
- Provide financial information to external parties, including accountant, bankers and auditors.
- Prepare year‑end journal entries and financial statements. Provide supporting documentation and schedules to facilitate completion of the tax return, financial statements and overhead review.
- Responsible for electronic administration of bank accounts via the banking portal.
- Prepare and maintain annual tax projection.
- Oversee the Accounting team process for managing, hiring, and retaining skilled accounting staff.
- Support staff career development and provide coaching on financial processes, systems, and project accounting principles.
- Monitor accounting team workload to estimate and maintain an appropriate staffing level.
- Foster a collaborative and service‑oriented partnership between accounting, operations, and project delivery teams.
- Responsible for overall quality of the department, including successful implementation of quality control processes.
- Serve as main point‑of‑contact for administration of the 401k plan, coordinate with service providers for compliance testing and annual financial statement audit.
- Responsible for all company business licenses.
- Recommend process improvements that enhance financial accuracy, project efficiency, and firmwide operational performance.
- Participate in execution of the Company's strategic plan, offering insights related to financial health, growth opportunities, and operational effectiveness.
- Support optimization of enterprise/project management systems (e.g., Deltek Vantagepoint) in partnership with operations and IT.

- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of general ledger, AP, AR, Billing, and Payroll.
- Knowledge of the company billing requirements.
- Knowledge of FAR and allowable/unallowable overhead expenses.
