Position: Finance Director (AI-Native) - Family Office

Phoenix, AZ | Relocation available | Hybrid with regular in-office collaboration

This is your chance to build a family office the way it should be: intelligent, efficient, forward-leaning from day one.

We are forming a new family office to oversee operating companies, real estate, trusts, and a diversified investment portfolio. No legacy systems. No inherited inefficiencies. No bloated structure. The office is intentionally lean, and this role carries full ownership of the financial engine—designed to scale in responsibility and impact across decades.

You will lead finance with both strategic command and hands-on execution. You run the monthly close, manage cash and liquidity, deliver precise reporting, and serve as the definitive source of financial judgment for the family and its advisors. Your systems and decisions will compound in value generation after generation.

AI is not optional here. It is the core lever for accuracy, speed, and scalability. You will design and deploy AI-native workflows that eliminate manual drag, anticipate issues, and make the office operate at a level traditional family offices can only envy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end monthly accounting and close across LLCs, trusts, holding entities, and investment vehicles.
  • Manage cash flow, expenses, forecasts, liquidity, capital calls, distributions, and portfolio tracking with precision.
  • Produce concise, decision-grade monthly financials, net-worth statements, and performance reporting.
  • Coordinate seamlessly with external tax, legal, estate, insurance, and investment advisors.
  • Design the financial operating model for a multi-generational family office—built to last and adapt.
  • Build AI-integrated, durable systems that replace spreadsheets and manual processes with automated, auditable, intelligent workflows.
  • Continuously eliminate inefficiency: any repetitive, error-prone, or slow task becomes your target for redesign and automation.
Tools and Intelligence Layer

You will wield a modern stack aggressively:

  • Core platforms:
Quick Books, Net Suite, Xero; portfolio and wealth tools (Asset Vantage, Addepar, or equivalent).
  • AI platforms:
OpenAI and Anthropic APIs, Claude, ChatGPT, agent frameworks, Grok, multi-step orchestration.
  • Data layer:
Excel/Google Sheets for prototyping; internal dashboards and reporting engines.
  • Integration:
Light scripting or no-code to enforce logic and connect everything.

You are expected to be an active builder: daily user of AI to automate data ingestion, anomaly detection, variance explanations, expense classification, reconciliation, reporting, and forecasting. If you have already implemented agents or workflows that meaningfully advance finance operations, we want to hear from you.

Qualifications
  • CPA required; 5–12 years progressive experience.
  • Public accounting background (audit/assurance preferred), now in industry.
  • Proven in smaller, dynamic, or entrepreneurial settings—not only large enterprises.
  • Current or recent role as Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Finance Manager, or early Controller.
  • Demonstrated ability to own full-cycle finance operations without large support teams.
  • Expert-level systems thinker and spreadsheet user; committed daily AI practitioner in real finance work (automation, analysis, reporting, controls).
  • Discreet, organized, dependable, with exceptional judgment and follow-through.

Family office, trust, private wealth, or multi-entity experience are bonus points. An AI-native, builder mindset is mandatory.

This Role Is Not For
  • Those who want to delegate to large teams.
  • Professionals comfortable only in rigid, corporate environments.
  • Anyone who avoids hands-on detail and execution.
  • Short-term opportunists.
How We Operate

Lean. Discreet. Results-oriented. We value long-term thinking, sound judgment, and unflinching ownership. Regular in-office collaboration with family principals drives alignment and momentum; async flexibility exists where it supports execution.

Compensation
  • Base salary aligned with experience, proven impact, and AI/finance leadership capability.
  • Significant performance bonus tied to operational excellence, cost discipline, and portfolio outcomes.
  • Equity/profit interest in the family office and underlying assets.
  • Clear trajectory to expanded scope, title, and compensation as the office matures and trust deepens.

If you are ready to take full ownership of a family office’s financial future, build intelligent systems that endure for generations, and operate at the highest level of discretion and excellence - apply now.

We are not preserving the status quo. We are defining what comes next.
