VP, Controller

Sares‑Regis Group, Phoenix, Arizona, United States (Position may be based in Phoenix, AZ or Indianapolis, IN).

SRG Residential is seeking an experienced VP Controller. This role will oversee all technical accounting matters related to the company, prepare financial statements, and review general ledger detail to ensure accuracy and compliance.

• Manage the monthly closing process for all Multifamily properties, reviewing journal entries, debt service payments, property taxes, bank reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Ensure timely distribution of financial reports to clients and business leaders, resolve discrepancies and variances in actuals‑to‑budget, and respond to client requests and issues.
• Maintain segregation of duties, internal controls, and compliance for all banking activities.
• Coordinate property tax appeals with asset managers and tax firms.
• Oversee audits of property accounts, working with audit and tax firms.
• Ensure lender compliance reporting is completed promptly and communicate issues to management.
• Administer on‑boarding and off‑boarding of properties, including due diligence, closing statements, proration true‑ups, bank account setup, and Yardi system configuration.
• Handle retail accounting: rent billing, CAM budget reconciliations.
• Reconcile corporate accounts receivable and ensure timely billing and collection of other revenues.
• Direct preparation of budget and forecast sections.
• Prepare regulatory reports, including unclaimed property reporting.
• Identify improvement opportunities and implement procedures, processes, or tools to increase efficiency.
• Perform additional duties as directed by Senior Management.

• Lead 3–4 subordinate supervisors who oversee 12–14 employees in the Accounting Department, including Accounts Payable.
• Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate staff, assign tasks, appraise performance, reward and discipline employees, address complaints, and coach staff.

• Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university.
• 5–6 years of related experience with demonstrated leadership in a Multifamily property management accounting department (increasing responsibility is preferred).

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA) preferred.
• California Real Estate License.

• Regular availability; overtime may be required.
• Occasional travel may be needed for meetings, training, or other business purposes.
• Strong management and supervisory skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain financial data to business leaders and auditors.
• Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and property management systems (Yardi, Pay Scan, MRI, One Site, Nexus, JD Edwards).
• Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Salary is TBD. The compensation package includes a 401(k) match, rental discounts and incentives, renewal compensation, bonuses, and benefits for full‑time employees (medical, dental, vision, other voluntary benefits, vacation and sick time accrual in accordance with law).
