The Opportunity

Responsible for providing financial, credit, and trend analysis for the delivery of the bank’s credit products and services to asset-based lending and other business clients and prospects. Monitors assigned credit relationships for covenant compliance, collateral monitoring, and credit deterioration as applicable. Conducts annual reviews of loans and identifies any risk rating changes. Keeps apprised of industry-related, political, and regulatory issues to determine their impact on specific industries or clients.

Works independently from sales teams to structure and evaluate credit requests. Determines the credit worthiness of the Borrower and recommends credit decisions to Credit Administration. Performs all duties in accordance with the Company’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.

How You’ll Make a Difference

  • Independently evaluates and structures complex credit requests, including asset-based lending, term loans, commercial real estate loans, bridge loans, guidance lines, syndicated credits, and related financing structures.
  • Performs independent credit analysis and risk assessment of new and existing credit requests, including analysis of financial statements for privately held and sponsor-owned companies from quality of earnings reports, financial projections, and audited statements.
  • Models income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow over multiple years, with extensive real estate schedules, and conducts downside and break-even projection analyses with limited input.
  • Understands complex corporate structures and recommends borrowing structures to protect the bank. In conjunction with Relationship Manager, drafts and negotiates complex loan documents.
  • Prepares the Credit Approval Memorandum (CAM) for Credit Administration final decisioning.
  • Works with Loan Coordinators to obtain due diligence information, perform annual reviews, and monitor covenant compliance.
  • Oversees Letters of Interest (LOI) and ensures consistency between loan documents and the CAM.
  • Maintains client relationships with Relationship Managers and may join client calls to assess needs and management teams.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to junior Underwriters on complex transactions and reviews their work.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant regulations and company policies; completes bank training courses on time.
  • Has advanced knowledge of asset-based lending guidelines, borrowing base reports, collateral exams, inventory appraisals, and appraisal/environmental reports.
  • Proactively identifies problem loans and prepares Problem Loan Status Reports (PLSRs) as necessary.
  • Monitors risk ratings for borrowers per bank policies and supports auditors in identifying rating changes; follows all policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

What You’ll Bring

  • Underwriting experience in asset-based lending including valuation, asset management, and financial analysis.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with state and federal regulations and laws related to this position (e.g., Regulation Z, Regulation B, FHA, HMDA, RESPA, FCRA, BSA/AML, CIP, RFPA, CRA).
  • Strong working knowledge of the Bank’s Loan Policies and Standards; understands complex loan documentation and collateral perfection.
  • Proficient in computer tools and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
