The Arizona Attorney General’s Office provides comprehensive legal protection to the citizens of Arizona and quality legal services to the State agencies by upholding the Constitution and enforcing the law in a fair and just manner.

The Operations Division/Budget & Finance Section is seeking a detail-oriented, Budget Analyst to join our collaborative team.

In this role, you will provide essential financial and budgetary support to assigned programs within the AGO, helping leadership make informed, data‑driven decisions. You will work closely with the Budget Supervisor and program leadership to ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and forecasting of agency funds throughout the state’s fiscal year.

This position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningful work in support of Arizona’s public interest while building expertise in state government finance and budget operations.

This position may offer a hybrid work schedule with the ability to work remotely two to three days a week (following an initial onboarding period), based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Retirement
  • Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
  • Please note, enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
Knowledge
  • Principles and practices of government finance, public budgeting, and fiscal operations.
  • Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and applicable state accounting manuals, guidelines, and statutes.
  • State budget processes, including annual budget submission requirements, appropriation types, and fund accounting.
  • Interagency Service Agreement (ISA) development, management, and compliance requirements.
  • Government financial management systems.
Skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, and financial modeling; working proficiency in the broader Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Interpreting, analyzing, and clearly presenting financial data to both financial and non‑financial audiences.
  • Preparing accurate, well‑organized budget reports, and funding requests, under defined deadlines.
  • Developing and delivering effective presentations to program leadership.
  • Written communication that is clear, concise, and appropriate for a professional government environment.
Abilities
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously with minimal supervision, particularly during high‑volume periods such as budget submission season and ISA drafting cycles.
  • Exercise sound judgment, discretion, and composure when working with sensitive financial and personnel data.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, including program staff, division leadership, and external agency contacts.
  • Represent the agency professionally in interactions with outside agencies, vendors, and other state entities.
Selective Preference(s)

Ideal Candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics or business administration.
