Correctional Sergeant III (S)
The NC Department of Adult Correction seeks a Correctional Sergeant III to manage and supervise the transportation section at the Eastern Region Office in Greenville, NC.
Responsibilities- Provide guidance and direction to ensure custody, security and control of offenders during transport.
- Coordinate transportation of inmates between jails, courts, prisons, and medical facilities while maintaining security and welfare.
- Ensure Transportation Officers are aware of their independent decision‑making authority within established guidelines.
- Recommend and implement standard operating procedures for offender transport within the region.
- Coordinate transport schedules to meet timely and policy‑compliant delivery.
- Oversee officer activities and performance to maintain custody, security, and welfare of offenders.
- Develop schedules, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
- Complete departmental reports (disciplinary, use of force, incident, grievance, etc.) within designated time frames.
- Conduct daily inspections in the assigned area, report irregularities, and initiate corrective action as necessary.
- Ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures, and enforce safety and security procedures.
$41,206 - $72,113 (Grade NC09)
Minimum Qualifications- High School or GED diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years as a Correctional Officer III, or an equivalent combination.
- Eligibility for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training and Standards Commission.
- Meet Criminal Justice Standards (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Produce a negative drug screening result.
- Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of facility operations.
- Knowledge of prisons’ policy and procedures.
