Job TitleFire Protection Engineer
Key Responsibilities- Provides technical assistance and advice to architects, contractors, engineers, and other private industry professionals in interpreting and complying with fire codes and standards.
- Provides technical advice while conducting system plan reviews, monitoring fire code information, and conducting site inspections for new construction projects.
- Recommends changes in fire codes.
- Reviews construction site plans and building plans for compliance with fire protection codes and standards.
- Evaluates the fire resistance of buildings and structures.
- Determines whether water availability and water delivery systems are adequate to protect buildings.
- Evaluates the storage, handling, and usage of flammable, combustible, and hazardous materials for compliance with fire codes, standards, and applicable regulations.
- Evaluates process engineering drawings, specifications, reports, and other documentation for compliance with fire codes, standards, and regulations.
- Evaluates alternate means and methods for achieving code compliance.
- Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and a commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity.
This position may require working more than forty hours in a workweek without additional compensation, including weekends, evenings, early mornings, and holidays as needed to fulfill assigned duties.
SalaryPay Range: $88,316.80 to $ annually. Hiring Range: $88,316.80 to $ annually.
Pay Range Explanation- Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
- Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
- Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
- Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
- Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
- When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

- One year of experience in fire protection engineering, or two years of structural plan and code compliance review that includes fire suppression systems.
- And a bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering or a related field.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- Some positions may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business; candidates must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's license, and have an acceptable driving record.
- Administrative reference and driving pre‑screening details are available upon request.
- Customer service experience.
- Project management experience.
- Fire prevention plan review/inspection experience.
- Fire protection system inspection and testing experience or NICET II Certification.
- NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist.
- One or more of the following certifications or licenses:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection Engineering.
- NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS).
- ICC Fire Plans Examiner (FPE) certification.
- Experience as an ICC‑certified Fire Plans Examiner.
