Fingerprint Technicians classify, search, compare, and verify fingerprints using the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). Responsibilities include processing fingerprints for all prisoners brought into the City's Central Booking Unit as well as applicants for city employment, identification purposes, licensee applicants and suspects. Work is performed within specific time constraints based on law enforcement guidelines.

Work Location:

Central Booking Detail- 3443 S. Central Avenue, Phoenix.

Pay Range: $24.21 per hour to $32.46 per hour.

Hiring Range: $24.21 per hour to $30.92 per hour.

• One year of experience performing specialized clerical work involving the receipt, filing, and maintenance of files and records related to criminal justice activities.
  • Including six months of experience in the classification of fingerprints and the ability to do general typing.
  • And completion of training in fingerprint identification techniques.
• Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

• Positions in the Police Department must meet the background standards that are appropriate to non-sworn positions. The general factors for disqualification are listed here.
• Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

• Current enrollment in or completion of a Classification of Fingerprint Course.
• Ability to type at a minimum of 30 wpm.
