Essential Functions
- Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care:
- Collect and shares pertinent information with the provider
- Receives and acts on directives from the provider
- Responsible for preparing the patient for visit with the provider. Duties include but are not limited to: rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, procedure set‑up, injection prep, accurate data entry into EMR.
- Responsible for completing tasks associated with Company initiatives such as PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.
- Maintains exam room standards. Rooms should be restocked at the end of each clinic day. Rooms and tables should be cleaned as needed during the clinic and at the end of each day.
- Monitors biohazard and sharps containers and replaces them as needed.
- Assists the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (e.g., work release, FMLA, etc.).
- Retrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours and documents actions in EMR.
- Prepares patient electronic charts for clinic visits before the date of service.
- Verifies any outstanding testing results are in EMR, confirms the appropriateness of the patient to the provider (body part and/or insurance), notes imaging, DME, or casting needed prior to provider visit on the date of service.
- Scans clinical documents into EMR.
- Prints clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service.
- Ensures patient receives education as indicated by the provider.
- Manages EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner.
- Acts as PTO Buddy per clinic plan.
- Creates and promotes a positive patient experience.
- Maintains HIPAA compliant environment.
- Maintains a clean workspace.
High school diploma/GED, and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
Experience- 1–2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
- In lieu of experience must have the following training and/or experience:
- Graduated from a formal training program during the last 12–18 months and have the CMA certificate; OR,
- Is grandfathered in as defined by State regulation.
- The employee must pass the MA competency exam within the first six months of employment.
- Active Medical Assistant certification such as Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT), or per State regulations.
- Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
- Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for meaningful use.
- BLS certification preferred.
- Knowledge of the health care field.
- General knowledge of patient care in a clinic.
- Knowledge of back office skills.
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality, state laws, HIPAA regulations, and medical records procedures.
- Requires strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software.
- Requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Professionalism when interacting with providers, co‑workers, patients, family members, and the public. Ability to problem‑solve.
- Time management skills.
- Ability to adapt to change.
- Requires the ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion.
- Ability to project a pleasant and professional image as a HOPCO employee both at work and on Social Media.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and complete delegated work assignments.
- Ability to demonstrate compassion when dealing with patients and family members.
- Normal office environment.
- Frequent travel to different clinic locations within the community.
