Charge Entry​/AR Specialist

Job Description

We are seeking a detail‑oriented and experienced Charge Entry / AR Specialist to join our in‑office billing team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely billing for behavioral health services under the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) and applicable Medicaid policies.

• Audit and enter charges using appropriate HCPCS codes with close attention to modifiers and unit calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Review clinical documentation to ensure services rendered meet coverage criteria as defined by the AHCCCS Behavioral Health Covered Services Guide and the Arizona Medicaid Policy Manual (AMPM).
• Validate documentation supports billing elements and aligns with state regulations and payer‑specific rules.
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to resolve discrepancies, clarify documentation, and ensure clean claims.
• Utilize reports to identify unbilled, under billed or denied services, working proactively to capture all revenue owed for services rendered according to AHCCCS regulations.
• Monitor and work Accounts Receivable reports as directed by supervisor.

• 2+ years of experience in medical billing, charge entry, or AR, preferably in a behavioral health setting.
• Proficiency with HCPCS/CPT coding, modifiers, and understanding of unit‑based billing. Does not need to be a CPC.
• Strong working knowledge of AHCCCS payor guidelines, including familiarity with AMPM and the Behavioral Health Covered Services Guide.
• Experience working with Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and comfortable navigating through documentation systems and payer portals.
• Ability to read and work from detailed reports to identify missing or inaccurate charges.
• Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills with a high attention to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team‑oriented office environment.
