This position assumes administrative responsibility for Respiratory Care Services, programs, and staff. It is responsible for financial oversight, positive customer relations, performance management, process improvement, planning, and directing staff members. The role designs and evaluates performance standards, systems, and processes to optimize care excellence in an efficient, effective manner while supporting the mission, vision and values of Phoenix Children’s.
Position Duties- Develop operational plans, initiatives, budgets and programs that support respiratory care strategies at the enterprise and operational unit levels.
- Manage and meet productivity metrics and variances for staff and programs.
- Ensure capital planning for respiratory therapy and maintain a 5‑year plan.
- Manage and meet operational budgets and targets.
- Partner with legal and finance to secure the most optimal contract terms for Phoenix Children’s.
- Work in partnership with finance to ensure patient billing is captured and includes nationally supported time units.
- Human Resource Management
- Develop and manage staffing plans to meet patient care volumes.
- Manage human resources within the scope of labor laws and hospital policies.
- Apply recruitment techniques and strategies to fill vacancies.
- Conduct individual and team interviews to select qualified applicants.
- Oversee development and evaluation of the onboarding process and content for staff.
- Conduct staff evaluations, assist staff with setting goals, implement continual performance development and initiate corrective action as needed.
- Performance Improvement
- Collaborate with Quality and Enterprise Services to assure care is patient-centered and evidence‑based.
- Facilitate and maintain strong external relationships to monitor national and local trends and identify best practices.
- Monitor effectiveness of customer service strategies and partner with unit leadership to implement improvements.
- Address customer service issues directly related to respiratory therapy care.
- Direct and manage daily operations to ensure patient care meets professional and regulatory standards.
- Strategic Management
- Partner with other leaders to develop, implement and/or lead key initiatives in respiratory therapy.
- Be accountable for strategic goals and project outcomes.
- Contribute to a culture of innovation to drive change and improvement.
- Monitor and assess that all services meet the needs of our diverse patient population.
- Leadership and Training
- Provide oversight, leadership and technical direction to leaders and staff.
- Lead departmental and enterprise change management efforts.
- Act as the key leader in coaching and training.
- Anticipate the needs of units to ensure services are in place to attain optimal outcomes.
- Ensure staff competencies are completed per regulatory requirements.
- Relationship Management and Influencing Behaviors
- Develop relationships across the enterprise necessary to communicate and carry out strategies and operational plans.
- Collaborate and manage relationships with senior executives and operations staff.
- Identify issues requiring immediate attention and apply crisis management principles as needed.
- Influence other leaders by role‑modeling good communication and professional behavior; apply motivational theory and act as a change agent; assist others in problem‑solving skills.
- Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.
