Job Description Summary / ObjectiveThe Assistant Dietary Manager is responsible for supervising dietary staff and overseeing all aspects of food service, including storage, preparation, cooking, and serving meals to Residents in accordance with menus and prescribed modified diets. Additionally, the Assistant Dietary Manager ensures that the kitchen and food service areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition. These services are consistent with the Home’s standards and philosophy and are in compliance with all regulations, codes, policies and procedures that govern the Home.
Requirementsand Qualifications
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent with professional food preparation training or must possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in quantity food production preferably in senior living or long-term care.
- Must have and maintain current food certification requirements as required by federal, state, and local regulations.
- Prior work experience in a non‑profit preferred.
- The ability/commitment to perform hands‑on food preparation and/or departmental sanitation when and if needed to ensure meal service.
- Must have the ability to creatively incorporate donations into a non‑standardized menu plan, in a person‑centered long‑term care setting.
- Must oversee and direct storage and food safety standards.
- Must have a basic understanding of the special needs and problems affecting the elderly.
- Ability to follow and give written and oral directions. Proficient in English.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Manuals, Policies/Procedures and Mission Integration materials for the Little Sisters are located in the Dietary Department. A personal copy of current Employee Handbook, the Home’s Supplement and Benefit Guide are provided at time of hire on Paycor.
Essential Functions- Consult/visit Residents regularly to assure maximum nutritional care and services are provided.
- Conduct regular visits with Residents to ensure optimal nutritional care and dietary services are provided.
- Assist, as needed, with the development of menu plans based on Residents’ nutritional needs and preferences.
- Review menus, production records, and catering sheets to accurately determine food types and quantities required for preparation.
- Collaborate with the Dietary Manager regarding departmental scheduling, food preparation processes, and food usage.
- Train kitchen staff on proper food storage practices, including dating and labeling food, identifying and removing dented or spoiled items, and maintaining proper FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of Dietary Department equipment and systems, ensuring proper upkeep, safe operation, and staff adherence to safety guidelines.
- Comply with all administrative and dietary policies and procedures, including but not limited to HIPAA, OSHA and safety regulations, infection prevention standards, Residents’ rights, quality improvement and assurance requirements, and employee handbook policies. Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate respect for all individuals at all times.
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of special assignments or events as directed.
- Communicate procedural updates, menu changes, and other relevant information to dietary staff as directed by the Dietary Manager.
- Promote efficient use of supplies and materials while maintaining awareness of cost control and budgetary guidelines.
