Primary FunctionThe EMT provides immediate emergency medical care and assists with intake screenings and routine health services for detainees. This role ensures rapid response to medical emergencies and compliance with detention center standards and applicable federal and state regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities- Respond to health-related emergencies within 4 minutes, providing CPR, AED, and first aid.
- Assist in intake arrival screening within 12 hours of detainee arrival, including vital signs, TB screening, and infectious disease checks.
- Support licensed medical staff in administering medications and monitoring detainees during emergency care.
- Document all emergency interventions accurately and promptly.
- Participate in fire, disaster, and evacuation drills per facility standards.
- Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved certifying body (e.g., American Heart Association).
- Complete annual training on emergency response, mental health crisis recognition, and universal precautions for blood borne pathogens.
- Must maintain all certifications and licenses in good standing throughout employment.
- Additional Duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited EMT program.
- Current state EMT certification/licensure.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in emergency medical services required; correctional healthcare experience preferred.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with federal privacy standards.
- Ability to perform under pressure in high-stress environments.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills for coordination with medical and security staff.
- Proficiency in documenting medical interventions accurately and promptly.
- Ability to obtain and maintain favorable background investigation.
- Must be proficient in English; able to receive and understand detailed information through oral and written communication.
- Meet the requirements of the contract for all immunizations.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be a US citizen or permanent resident, resided in the US for 3 years in the past 5 years.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred or other languages.
- Has undergone a federal investigation at the level of Tier 2 or higher; has been granted favorable suitability/eligibility and has not had a break in service for more than 24 months.
- Detention center experience.
- Ability to work in a secure facility environment.
- Must complete provided training on case processing and administrative support tasks.
