Job Details
- Location: Phoenix, AZ
- Department: ICU – Trauma & Surgical
- Shift: Night (7pm – 7:30am)
- Hours: Three 12‑hour shifts per week (Day shift 7am – 7:30pm, Night shift 7pm – 7:30am). Weekend and holiday shifts are required.
- Shift Differential: 18% for night shifts; $1 flat for weekends (when applicable).
- Sign‑On Bonus: $3,000 (subject to completion of hiring process).
This position provides routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contributes to the overall patient plan of care. The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for on‑going patient data collection, documentation in the medical records, and a variety of unit support functions that support efficient operation of the nursing unit.
Core Functions- Assists patients with activities of daily living, including basic hygiene, mobility, and nutrition.
- Collects patient specimens and data (vital signs, input/output, other delegated measurements) in accordance with unit policy.
- Reports abnormalities or changes in patient status to a licensed professional and communicates patient status accurately to other caregivers.
- Performs procedures and operates equipment delegated by a licensed professional (blood draws, Foley removal, EKGs, EKG monitoring). Provides supplies and support to medical staff and patients.
- Assists with receptionist/clerical duties to support department communication and information flow.
- Maintains complete patient records (admission, transfer, discharge, progress notes, consent forms), ensuring all reports and chart forms are scanned or filed.
- Manages supplies, including requisition, reconciliation, and tracking of electronic equipment (patient , laptop computers).
- If assigned, assists with transport of pre‑operative and immediate post‑operative patients to critical care units and participates in operating room turnover.
- Works under supervision and interacts with staff, patients, families, and physicians in a fast‑paced, customer‑service focused environment.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of practice (required for new hires and transfers).
- Minimum one year of medical clerical or customer‑service experience; preferably in a hospital or physician office.
- Excellent organizational, human‑relations, and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology, computer literacy, and keyboarding skills.
- Requires a minimum passing score of 85% on an ECG or EEG test with identification of all lethal cardiac dysrhythmias and epileptiform activity, or successful completion of a unit‑approved basic electrocardiogram or electroencephalographic interpretation course.
- Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required where applicable (Department policy).
- Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure in Arizona.
- Recent healthcare experience.
- Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program.
- Additional related education or experience.
