Job Summary

The individual in this position will assist in preparing, packaging, delivering, and charging medication orders under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Duties include filling and labeling medications, stocking pharmacy inventory, restocking automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs), maintaining adequate medication stock levels and proper storage, delivering medications to patient care areas, attending medication requests and phone calls, preparing IV sterile admixture solutions and IV products, advanced compounding of chemotherapy and TPNs, participating in pharmacy quality assurance activities, training and educating pharmacy technicians, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards, and hospital policies, assisting pharmacists and supervisors with various duties, and serving as a resource for pharmacy drug distribution functions.

Responsibilities
  • Accurately fill medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner.
  • Assure all medication orders are verified by a pharmacist prior to dispensing.
  • Respond appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests, and ADC stock‑out bulletins.
  • Process and document emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits accurately and timely.
  • Accurately stock ADCs in a timely manner.
  • Prepackage and label oral medications and extemporaneous preparations.
  • Prepare non‑sterile compounded products accurately and consistently with hospital policies and procedures (USP 795).
  • Prepare sterile admixture solutions and IV products accurately in accordance with sterile compounding policies and procedures (USP 797 and USP 800).
  • Restock medications in the IV room and conform to the IV cleaning schedule.
  • Complete monthly medication inspections as assigned.
  • Maintain quality assurance logs with proper documentation and notify the supervisor of any deviations from standards.
  • Ensure efficient operational workflow in assigned area(s) and conform with the delivery schedule.
  • Display a leadership role with areas of responsibility completed and/or delegated appropriately.
  • Follow proper process for handling controlled substances and report any variances to the supervisor or pharmacist‑in‑charge.
  • Ensure patient accounts are properly charged.
  • Assist in training and educating new pharmacy technician staff.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of performance improvement plans.
  • Troubleshoot automated technology (dispensing and packaging).
  • Act as an agent, under supervision, of the facility medical director while performing medication management related activities at a remote site.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
