Overview

Position eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Applicants must meet individual eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit the EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amount up to $200,000 and eligibility period up to five years are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after application review.

• United States Citizenship:
  Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.
• Language:
  Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. §7403(f).
• Licensure:
  Applicants must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
• Exception:
  Non‑licensed applicants who otherwise meet eligibility may receive a temporary appointment as a “graduate psychologist” at the GS‑11 or GS‑12 grade under 38 U.S.C. §7405(c)(2)(B) for up to two years pending licensure.
• Education:
  
  Applicant must have a doctoral degree in psychology from an APA‑accredited program (PCSAS) or CPA‑accredited program, or meet equivalent criteria (see below).
• Specialty area must align with assignment.
• For applicants with a doctoral degree in any psychology area, must complete a re‑specialization program in an APA or CPA‑accredited program and be retrained in a specialty consistent with assignment.
• Doctoral degree awarded 1951‑1978 from a regionally accredited institution with a primarily psychological dissertation; must have completed a professional psychology internship accredited by APA or CPA, or equivalent.
• Applicants currently board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology with a specialty consistent with assignment may be eligible if internship is not accredited.
• Internship portion:
  If internship not reflected on transcript, applicant must provide verification from doctoral program of equivalent one‑year supervised internship.

• Grade Determinations: GS‑11—none beyond basic requirements; GS‑12—at least one year experience as professional psychologist; GS‑13—at least two years with one year at GS‑12 level.

• Knowledge and application of a wide range of professional psychological treatments or assessment methods for various patient populations.
• Ability to design and implement effective treatment strategies.
• Capacity to incorporate new clinical procedures.
• Research abilities: designing and conducting clinical research projects, documentation, data acquisition, participant relations, and collaboration.
• Clinical advisory: provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.
• Knowledge of clinical research literature.
• Understanding of national and local performance measures and timely completion of clinical reminders.

• Serve as full members of the Mental Health Medical Staff and as primary psychologists for the PCT Specialty Mental Health Section.
• Evaluate and diagnose mental health disorders through psychological assessments.
• Provide comprehensive evidence‑based psychotherapeutic interventions, including group, individual, and couples therapy for PTSD.
• Deliver services within the PCT clinical program via tele‑mental modalities.
• Consult within interdisciplinary medical setting involving psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, and social workers.
• Facilitate coordination of services with other mental health programs.
• Comply with national and local performance measures, including health care screenings and clinical reminders.
• Assist the PCT Program Manager in designing, developing, and implementing clinical programs.
• Follow operational policies and procedures for health care as directed by the Medical Center and Psychology Service Management.
• Attend PCT meetings, psychology service staff meetings, medical staff meetings, and comply with peer review procedures.
