Banner University Medical Center Phoenix is seeking a Monitor Technician to join our Progressive Care Unit. This position is entry‑level and responsible for a variety of administrative support functions and customer service for an assigned patient care area which promote an organized, efficient delivery of care to patients. The position facilitates communication between physicians, nurses and patients, calls in consults and acts as a liaison with all other internal departments and external contacts.
We have a full‑time night shift position working from 7 pm – 7:30 am and a full‑time day shift working from 7 am – 7:30 pm.
Enjoy an 18% night shift differential and a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential.
Position SummaryThis position is responsible for continuous observation of patients’ monitors, leads and/or activity and behaviors, and for reporting pertinent changes and abnormalities to the appropriate clinical staff. This position is also responsible for maintaining logs of activity and changes or behaviors in accordance with facility standards.
Core Functions- Provides continuous observation of monitors, leads and/or activity and behaviors for assigned patients. Must be aware of pertinent medical history, medications and code status for each of their assigned patients; alerts appropriate clinical staff of any changes and abnormalities.
- Obtains calibrated rhythm strips per policy and maintains documentation in accordance with facility standards; documents changes in clinical and/or behavioral activity.
- Provides information and summaries to physicians and staff.
- Monitors and assists in the maintenance of monitoring equipment.
- May provide general support to the department, including greeting and assisting patients, visitors, physicians, and ancillary personnel.
- Works under general supervision. Interacts with all levels of staff within the facility, physicians, patients, families and external contacts and vendors.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Banner Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
- Current BLS certification may be required in certain departments.
- Current BLS certification is required for Banner Staffing Services (BSS) monitor technicians.
- Completion of unit‑approved basic electrocardiogram or electroencephalographic interpretation course, or on‑the‑job training and a minimum passing score of 85% on ECG or EEG test, with accurate identification of all lethal cardiac dysrhythmias or epileptiform activity.
- Must possess a working knowledge of medical terminology.
- Requires effective interpersonal and problem‑solving skills.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
