We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Certified Administrative Medical Assistant to support our Neurology division. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong administrative and communication skills who enjoys working in a collaborative healthcare environment.
Required Certifications- Medical Assistant Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) or American Medical Technologists (RMA)
- Current BLS certification for Health Care Professionals from the American Heart Association
- Graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES, or another school approved by the Department of Education
- Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Efficient typing and computer proficiency
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
This position supports the division by managing administrative tasks, coordinating communication between patients and the healthcare team, and enhancing the overall patient experience. The role requires strong organizational abilities, clear communication skills, and a commitment to patient-centered service.
Key Responsibilities- Answering the Neurology clinical line
- Assisting with medication refills and prior authorizations
- Supporting additional departmental administrative tasks, including emails, faxes, and forms
This position works under the direction of a licensed health care professional and performs various clinical and administrative tasks for Phoenix Children’s. This position is mainly administrative but requires a clinical knowledge base to help facilitate patient care.
Position Duties- Administrative Responsibilities
- Assist with prescription refill requests
- Process medication refills as directed by a provider and according to hospital policies
- Obtain prior authorizations for medication and DME
- Screen telephone calls and take accurate clinical messages within the Medical Assisting scope of practice and in accordance with Phoenix Children's policies
- Return patient calls with provider-directed instructions
- Assist patients and providers in completing documentation and any other paperwork that requires provider disclosure or attestation
- Clean and restock exam rooms
- In some clinics, serve as an eligible witness to cycle counting and wasting of controlled substances
- Follow appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct
- Clinical Responsibilities
- Measure and record vital signs, growth parameters, medical histories, and signs and symptoms into the electronic health record
- Communicate patient-related information to the licensed health care provider
- Perform electrocardiograms, pulmonary function tests, and other diagnostic testing within the Medical Assisting scope
- Collect laboratory specimens (including blood specimens)
- Perform point of care testing
- Prepare and administer medications with provider authorization and adhere to all regulations, guidelines, and policies for appropriate storage, mixing, disposal, inventory, and labeling of medications
- Utilize medication reconciliation tools within the EHR
- Perform routine screening tests
- Assist the provider with exams
- Remove sutures, change dressings, apply bandages, and perform other first-aid procedures
- Prepare and instruct patients about examinations, diagnostic tests, medications, special diets, and health maintenance
- Disposal of biohazardous materials in accordance with OSHA safety standards and hospital policies
- Demonstrate infection control standards related to hand washing and standard precautions, ensuring all equipment in exam rooms is cleaned per hospital policies
- Follow Phoenix Children's and OSHA safety rules and procedures at all times
- Uphold HIPAA regulations
- Maintain up-to-date certifications, company-mandated training, and professional development
- Float to other practices as needed by hospital and/or as requested by management
