Position: MEDICAL ASSISTANT

DEPT OF HEALTH SERVICES The Arizona State Hospital (ASH) provides inpatient psychiatric care to persons with serious mental illness who need long‑term behavioral health care. ASH promotes hope and wellness for our patients and creates opportunities to participate in planning, delivering and evaluating services that assist with recovery. The Arizona State Hospital has a wide range of positions available, from our direct care staff, Nurses and Behavioral Health Technicians to Social Workers, Rehabilitation Specialist and Security to name a few. The Arizona State Hospital also offers 12 hour shifts for our Direct Care staff as well as some alternative work schedules, flexible hours for non‑direct care staff. Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Psychiatric Nurse Unit Manager, the Medical Assistant will be responsible for performing general medical assistant functions in support of the care and treatment of patients while providing assistance to all office personnel as needed. Assists in examination of patients under the direction of physician. Takes vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height.

Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. Cleans and sterilizes instruments. Inventories and orders medical supplies as needed. Operates electrocardiographic (EKG) and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests. Performs phlebotomy, routine laboratory testing and process specimens for courier transport. Complete clerical tasks including but not limited to filing, scanning, scheduling, data input, answering phones, and general support to all office personnel.

Adhere to company policies and procedures and prioritize and complete day-to-day activities. Maintain office equipment, office, and medical supplies through efficient inventory management.

Job Duties:

  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position ( typically 5% - 10% )
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of:
    Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.
  • Skill in:
    Phlebotomy, Specimen processing for transport, Back office and front office knowledge, Basic computer knowledge, Clerical task experience, Preparing examination rooms, assist in examination of patients
  • Ability to:

Selective Preference(s):
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills for interfacing with patients, staff, and outside vendors.
