Psychologist Position at Phoenix VA

The Mental Health Department at the Phoenix VA is seeking a psychologist to join the Medical Psychology and Palliative Care teams. The psychologist will serve as the primary psychologist for the Inpatient Medicine Wards, providing consultation psychology services, as well as serving as the Psychologist on the Hospice and Palliative Care Team. This role is a full member of the Mental Health Medical Staff and includes providing ongoing consultation services to other interdisciplinary team members.

After meeting pre-employment requirements, candidates will receive a final job offer and start date. If selected, applicants should be prepared to come onboard within 30 days of the announcement closing. Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Promotes the delivery of evidence-based psychosocial and environmental interventions for reducing behavioral and psychological symptoms
• Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including psychological/neuropsychological assessment using the most appropriate assessment tools and techniques.
• Develops person-centered, culturally sensitive treatment to address mental health needs of residents in the nursing home care unit.
• Screen, assess, diagnose and treat the full spectrum of mental health conditions found in medical patient population.
• Performs evaluations for depression, anxiety and dementia as well as other behavioral and mood issues and substance abuse.
• Provides support services to family members of Veterans receiving care to promote positive coping in anticipatory grief as well as bereavement.
• Consults with treatment team colleagues on a wide variety of resident care issues.

Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
