Administrative Medical Assistant – Developmental Pediatrics & Neuropsychology. This position supports two specialty areas—Developmental Pediatrics and Neuropsychology—in a unique blended role. The role is primarily administrative, collaborating across multidisciplinary teams while supporting patient care through coordination, communication, and workflow management.

Developmental Pediatrics

• Manage the clinical call line and respond to patient inquiries.
• Process and coordinate patient forms requests.
• Provide occasional patient rooming when additional clinical coverage is needed.

Neuropsychology

• Review incoming referrals for completeness and appropriate processing.
• Distribute educational materials and resources to referring providers.
• Support referral coordination and communication with internal and external partners.

• Perform other administrative Medical Assistant duties as assigned.
• Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary teams to support efficient clinic operations.
• Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and exceptional customer service in all interactions.

Education

• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP, ABHES, or another school approved by the Department of Education; or current Medical Assistant certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) or American Medical Technologists (RMA) in lieu of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.

Certifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association.
• Medical Assistant Certification (CMA or RMA) required within 90 days of hire to remain in the position.

Experience

• One year of experience in a health care or pediatric setting.

This role works under the direction of a licensed health care professional and performs various clinical and administrative tasks for the assigned area. The Medical Assistant is expected to carry out the mission, vision, and values of Phoenix Children's. A continuous exhibition of professionalism, strong ethical conduct, and integrity must be carried out at all times. Interdepartmental collaboration, high standards of work performance, keeping a positive attitude, and adhering to the policies and procedures of Phoenix Children's is essential.

This position requires current and continuous certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) or American Medical Technologists (RMA) in the field of Medical Assisting or the ability to acquire within 90 days of hire. Anyone hired prior to 11/30/2021 has one year from their date of hire to obtain the required Medical Assistant Certification.

Clinical responsibilities:

• Measures and records vital signs, growth parameters, medical histories, and signs and symptoms into the electronic health record
• Communicates patient related information to the licensed health care provider
• Performs electrocardiograms, pulmonary function tests, and other diagnostic testing within the Medical Assisting scope
• Collects laboratory specimens (including blood specimens)
• Performs point of care testing
• Prepares and administers medication at the direction of a licensed health care provider and adheres to all regulations, guidelines, and policies for medication labeling, security and storage, inventory management and disposal.

• Assists the provider with exams and procedures
• Removes sutures, changes dressings, applies bandages and other first aid procedures
• Prepares and instructs patients about examinations, diagnostic tests, medications, special diets, and health maintenance
