Phlebotomist – North East Phoenix
This role involves performing blood draws and specimen processing in a high-volume patient service center. You collect and receive biological specimens, accurately enter data into the laboratory information system, prepare samples for analytical testing, and ensure specimens reach the correct analytical areas. You support both the pre- and post-analytical phases of testing, perform specified analytical tests as assigned, and consistently follow the organization's Code of Conduct while providing professional, compassionate patient care.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws on patients in a patient service center environment.
- Collect, receive, and label biological specimens accurately and completely.
- Enter patient and specimen information correctly into the company's computer and laboratory information systems.
- Prepare specimens for analytical testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and proper storage as required.
- Distribute specimens to the appropriate analytical departments or testing areas in a timely manner.
- Support all pre-analytical processes, including patient identification, order verification, and specimen handling according to established procedures.
- Support post-analytical processes, including proper specimen retention, disposal, and documentation.
- Perform specified analytical testing as assigned, following established laboratory protocols and quality standards.
- Provide courteous, professional patient care, ensuring a positive experience for patients in a high-volume setting.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with other phlebotomists and laboratory staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with laboratory and safety policies.
- Follow all guidelines outlined in the organization's Code of Conduct and adhere to regulatory and internal quality standards.
- Handle pediatric and geriatric collections when needed, using age-appropriate techniques and care.
- Assist with newborn screening (NBS) collections when required, following specific collection and handling procedures.
- Support team members in managing patient flow and prioritizing work in a busy PSC environment.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of prior phlebotomy experience, preferably in a high-volume setting.
- Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques.
- Experience with specimen collection, labeling, and processing for laboratory testing.
- Ability to accurately enter and verify data in a computer-based laboratory information system.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to pre- and post-analytical procedures.
- Comfort working collaboratively as part of a team of phlebotomists and laboratory staff.
- GED or high school diploma (HSD) required.
- Ability to provide professional, compassionate patient care across diverse patient populations.
- Capability to follow established protocols, safety procedures, and a formal Code of Conduct.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a high-volume patient service center is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in pediatric blood collections is preferred.
- Proficiency in geriatric blood collections is preferred.
- Experience with newborn screening (NBS) collections is a plus.
- Bilingual communication skills are a plus.
- Interest in career growth within the laboratory and phlebotomy field.
- Willingness to participate in career ladder opportunities to advance to higher-level phlebotomy roles.
Work Environment
This position is based in a patient service center located at 40th st and Bell Rd in Phoenix, AZ. You work on-site alongside two or more phlebotomists in a collaborative, team-based environment. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The site operates as a high-volume facility, requiring efficient patient flow and strong teamwork. You use standard phlebotomy and laboratory equipment, including needles, collection tubes, centrifuges, and computer-based laboratory information systems.
