Position Title

Clinical Pharmacist Specialist – Adult Abdominal Transplant

Position Summary

Provides direct support for abdominal transplant services, including kidney, liver, and pancreas transplantation, across both inpatient and ambulatory settings. Pharmacists rotate through inpatient and ambulatory responsibilities in two‑week intervals with flexibility based on workload. Works collaboratively with transplant surgeons, hepatologists, nephrologists, mid‑level providers, a dedicated transplant infectious disease team, and the multidisciplinary transplant team. Participates in transplant selection committees, quality initiatives, process improvement efforts, and the development of policies and clinical protocols.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical pharmacotherapy support for adult abdominal transplant services in inpatient and ambulatory settings.
  • Collaborate with the transplant surgical, hepatology, nephrology, infectious disease, and mid‑level provider teams.
  • Participate in transplant selection committees and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Contribute to quality initiatives, process improvement, and policy development.
  • Conduct educational activities and apply principles of performance improvement.
  • Oversee pharmacy technician workflow and medication checking prior to dispensing.
  • Adhere to local, state, and federal laws governing pharmacy practice.
Work Schedule

Daytime hours, Monday – Friday. No dedicated weekend or major holiday coverage.

Compensation

Sign‑on incentive up to $15,000 for a 2‑year commitment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD) and completion of a PGY1 residency program.
  • Alternatively, at least 3 years of progressive health‑system clinical pharmacy experience if no residency training.
  • Board certification through the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (e.g., BCPS, BCOP) – certification must be active and maintained.
  • Pharmacist licensure in the state of practice; must obtain within 90 days of hire (unless exempted by state board).
  • Valid driver’s license may be required; eligibility for company auto insurance coverage.
  • Knowledge of medication management software, pharmacy system software, Microsoft applications, and automated dispensing systems.
  • Good organizational, problem‑solving, computer, written, and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a PGY2 residency or PGY1 residency plus a minimum of 3 years of health‑system experience.
  • Board certification in the relevant specialty area.
  • Expert level working knowledge of the principles, practices, and operations within the assigned area of responsibility.
Additional Notes
  • For pharmacists providing care in Investigational Drug Services, the ASHP Investigational Drug Service Certificate is accepted; non‑certified candidates have 24 months to achieve certification.
  • Incumbents in Arizona are required to provide an AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at the time of hire.
  • Eligible candidates should include a cover letter stating experience, training, and interest in this position.
