Position Summary

The Pediatric Dietitian I (PD I) provides evidence-based nutrition care to patients and families using practice skills that satisfy the needs and concerns of assigned patients. The PD I formulates and implements individualized nutrition care plans using current medical nutrition therapy (MNT), contributes to nutrition care decisions that lead to positive outcomes, and serves as an effective educator. The role prioritizes workload, delivers nutrition care to assigned patients, and advocates for the nutritional needs of the patient and family.

Oversight is provided by the Manager of Clinical Nutrition Services. Daily workload management, problem‑solving in the work area, and collaboration with more experienced team members are required.

Position Duties
  • Provides nutrition care to assigned patients and families with general pediatric nutritional conditions and disorders across all ages and developmental stages.
  • Assesses nutritional needs, develops and implements an effective MNT plan of care, recommends interventions, and monitors outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Selects the appropriate feeding modality and accurately calculates nutritional needs, adjusting the plan as findings warrant.
  • Assumes a proactive role in patient and family education, adapting teaching styles to individual learning needs and ensuring compassionate interactions.
  • Documents nutrition care plans and recommendations accurately and promptly, ensuring timely availability for interdisciplinary care planning.
  • Participates in teaching and patient rounds, sharing information that supports interdisciplinary decision making and acts as a liaison for individual patient needs.
  • Carries out patient‑care related duties under routine supervision, seeking assistance when knowledge limits are reached and pursuing learning opportunities.
  • Serves the hospital, community, and other health‑care organizations as a resource for nutrition information, and participates in projects promoting health and well‑being.
  • Demonstrates understanding of quality improvement principles and supports changes that enhance care and services.
  • Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.
Position Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree and supervised practice experience meeting the requirements for registered dietitian status of the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. (Required)

Experience

  • Experience in a health‑care, preferably hospital, environment using current MNT to provide care to general hospitalized patients, including but not limited to parenteral and enteral formulas, GI disorders, cardiac, diabetes, renal, pulmonary, and weight‑management or growth concerns and disorders. (Preferred)
  • Pediatric experience. (Preferred)

Special Skills

  • Strong verbal, non‑verbal, and written communication skills. (Required)
  • Flexibility with scheduled days and hours of work and participation in the on‑call/weekend rotation. (Required)
  • Bilingual (Spanish) skills. (Preferred)

Additional Requirements

  • Eligible to obtain a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (R.D. or R.D.N.) credential recognized by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics prior to the start date. (Required)
