Position Summary
The Pathologist Associate supports and assists the Pathology and Pathology Operations departments in day-to-day operations, including Macrodissection and Microdissection.
Job Responsibilities- Use Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) to log appropriate information into the LIS and other required logs.
- Assist with related duties and special projects for the Pathology and Pathologist Assistant department.
- Collect marked areas for molecular analysis using Micro and Macro techniques.
- Maintain a clean workstation.
- Prioritize and triage specimens; handle and dispose of specimens and chemical waste per the procedural manual, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Perform Quality Control/Quality Assurance tests; maintain documentation and logs.
- Report concerns regarding test quality and/or patient/employee safety to a supervisor or Safety Officer.
- Maintain laboratory procedures and comply with applicable policies and procedures; recommend changes.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on microdissection equipment; document activities.
- Communicate laboratory problems and non-conformities to supervisors/management.
- Foster a collaborative, positive work environment; accept other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical/biological/clinical/medical laboratory science or medical technology (accredited).
- OR bachelor’s degree with at least 60 semester hours including required course distribution, plus completion of an approved/accredited clinical lab training program OR at least 3 months documented specialty lab training for high complexity testing.
- 1+ years of experience; technical qualifications in pathology.
- Ability to work accurately in routine and stressful situations; strong lab discipline knowledge.
- Experience with microdissection technicians in a CLIA-certified environment (preferred).
- Knowledge of laboratory safety (biohazards/chemicals) and QC procedures/regulations.
- Strong quantitative, problem-solving/troubleshooting, multitasking, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic business internet use.
- Computer use; inventory/ordering records; microscope use; sterile technique; sit/stand for long periods; repetitive motion; lift up to 30 lbs.
- Possible exposure to biohazards/chemicals (including formaldehyde, xylene, DAB, alcohol, formalin).
- Job-specific safety/compliance training assigned based on role functions.
- May require periodic travel and some evenings/weekends/holidays.
- Must complete pre-employment process: criminal background check, drug screening, credit check (for certain positions), and reference verification.
