Compounding Pharmacy Technician

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, learn and apply company SOPs to perform supporting compounding tasks, participate in dosage form training, and obtain in depth knowledge (validation) in the preparation and handling of at least 1 dosage compounding form following established protocols and compounding techniques. Adhere to all applicable regulations, including USP standards, state law, and federal law.

Learn and apply USP standards to prepare, handle, and dispose of materials including hazardous waste. Perform aseptic technique during the compounding process to prevent contamination and ensure sterility. Clean and sanitize the compounding area, equipment, and tools in accordance with regulations and standard operating procedures. Maintain strict documentation and record-keeping of compounded medications, ingredients, lot numbers, and expiration dates. Monitor and maintain inventory levels of compounding supplies, including chemicals, solutions, and equipment, and place orders as needed.

Participate in training programs, continuing education, and professional development opportunities to stay updated on compounding techniques, regulations, and industry advancements. Collaborate with pharmacists and other team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of compounding orders. Maintain a strong track record of reliability and punctuality. Cross train in multiple departments, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent. Entry level compounding position. Experience as a compounding Pharmacy Technician, with a focus on non-sterile compounding, preferred but not required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must obtain and maintain Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) license or registration (if applicable) through the State Board of Pharmacy in the state where the compounding facility is located.

COMPETENCIES (

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

) Able to read and follow Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) and complete basic mathematical calculations used in the role. Able to work on routine compounding task assignments and utilize basic compounding skills as required for the position. Familiarity with veterinary medications, dosages, and compounding requirements is a plus. Proficiency in using compounding equipment and software systems, including automated compounders and inventory management systems preferred.

Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills to ensure accuracy and efficiency in compounding operations. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and potency in all compounding activities while meeting deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team. Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and following all relevant safety protocols.
