Overview:
The HR Risk & Claims Specialist is a cross-functional role responsible for overseeing Workers’ Compensation claim management and ensuring workforce compliance across onboarding, leave administration, payroll alignment, and terminations.
This position plays a critical role in reducing organizational risk, preventing payroll and benefit leakage, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and company policies. The role partners closely with HR, Safety, Payroll, and Operations to proactively audit workforce data, manage claims, and identify process gaps that create financial or legal exposure.
Approximately 50% of the role will focus on Workers’ Compensation claim oversight, with the remaining 50% dedicated to workforce compliance auditing and process integrity.
Compensation:- Competitive compensation package of minimum $60,000 – maximum $75,000
- Vacation: minimum of two (2) weeks
- Sick days: 5 days
- Holidays: 6 days

Workers’ Compensation & Safety Compliance (50%)
- Manage and track all Workers’ Compensation claims from injury through closure
- Serve as liaison between employees, Safety, Operations, insurance carriers, and legal partners
- Monitor restricted duty and return-to-work status
- Ensure payroll coding accuracy for employees on modified or leave status
- Maintain accurate documentation for legal and audit purposes
- Identify claim trends and partner with leadership to mitigate risk
- Track lost time, claim duration, and cost drivers
- Support claim investigations and documentation collection
- Pull and analyze ADP/HRIS reports regularly
- Cross‑reference employee status (active, inactive, terminated) for accuracy
- Identify discrepancies related to:
- Benefits deductions
- Leave status
- Payroll coding
- Termination timing
- Partner with Payroll to correct discrepancies proactively
- Audit onboarding files for:
- I‑9 completion and documentation
- Job coding accuracy
- Background and drug screen documentation
- Ensure timely and compliant system entry
- Confirm timely system deactivation
- Ensure benefits termination and COBRA triggers
- Verify compliance with final pay requirements
- Audit offboarding documentation
- Audit FMLA and state leave tracking
- Monitor leave balances and payroll coding
- Ensure documentation compliance
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- 3+ years of experience in HR, Workers’ Compensation, Safety Administration, Payroll, or Compliance
- Experience managing Workers’ Compensation claims required
- Experience with ADP, UKG, or comparable HRIS/payroll systems preferred
- Strong understanding of employment law and compliance requirements
- Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation processes and return‑to‑work programs
- Ability to analyze reports and identify discrepancies
- Strong attention to detail and process orientation
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Strong cross‑functional communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
