Overview At Sprouts, we believe our growth is powered by our people—our Sprouties! The Director of Talent Development leads the design and execution of enterprise‑wide learning and talent management strategies that build leadership capability, strengthen our talent pipeline, and support operational excellence. This role partners with Operations, Store Support Office leadership, and the Director of Training to ensure that all development programs are aligned with business needs, drive measurable results, and reinforce Sprouts’ purpose and values.

The Director sets direction for enterprise learning and talent systems while also staying hands‑on—designing, building, and continuously improving programs, tools, and insights that help leaders and teams grow.

This position is an on‑site position. You must live, or be willing to relocate, to Phoenix, AZ.

Overview of Responsibilities Learning Program Design & Leadership
  • Lead the end‑to‑end Instructional Systems Design (ISD) process (e.g., ADDIE), personally modeling robust design thinking, analysis, storytelling, and facilitation.
  • Design and deliver modern, blended learning experiences at scale—including eLearning, microlearning, video, facilitator led, and on‑the‑job learning—grounded in adult learning theory.
  • Develop and maintain role‑based learning pathways and cohort programs through Manager and Director levels, integrating leadership assessments and personalized development journeys.
  • Champion innovation by bringing tech‑enabled, personalized, and adaptive learning to life, including AI‑enabled learning and content creation tools.
  • Deliver practical performance support in the flow of work (e.g., job aids, micro videos, reinforcement nudges) that drives real application and behavior change.
  • Define and track success metrics (adoption, behavior change, operational KPIs) and use data and feedback to improve learning solutions.
Talent & Succession Planning
  • Own and continuously improve tools, processes, and support for quarterly talent reviews and succession planning, enabling leaders and HR Business Partners to have meaningful, development focused talent conversations.
  • Design, implement, and maintain performance management processes that emphasize coaching, growth, and practical development.
  • Enable leaders to create high‑quality Individual Development Plans by providing clear tools, training, and routines that make development a shared responsibility.
  • Track and analyze succession health, pipeline depth, and internal mobility to surface insights and inform action.
  • Collaborate across HR and business functions to identify talent gaps, support readiness, and align talent processes with Sprouts’ purpose and values.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Partnership
  • Build, lead, and develop a blended team of instructional designers and program managers, setting clear standards, priorities, and operating rhythms.
  • Serve as a hands‑on design leader—coaching and developing designers by modeling robust design, facilitation, and problem‑solving practices.
  • Partner closely with Operations, HR, Store Support Office leaders, and Training to co‑create practical, relevant solutions that drive adoption.
  • Manage relationships with external content partners and learning technology providers to maximize impact and ROI.
  • Communicate clearly and transparently with stakeholders, providing updates, sharing insights, and adapting plans as business needs evolve.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Talent Development, Learning & Development, or Organizational Development, including significant leadership experience.
  • Deep, balanced expertise in both instructional design and organizational development, with hands‑on design experience.
  • Proven success designing and delivering learning solutions for multi‑unit, field‑based organizations; retail or similar environments preferred.
  • Strong ability to balance enterprise strategy with hands‑on execution in a lean, fast‑moving environment.
  • Data driven and analytical, paired with creativity and a strong design.
