About the RoleThe Information Technology Department is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join the Central IT team. This department provides technology services and support for complex networks and enterprise systems serving more than 14,000 employees.
The Senior Security Engineer plays a critical role in safeguarding network services and protecting sensitive data across enterprise infrastructure and cloud environments. This position oversees the implementation of network security controls organization-wide to ensure compliance with established information security policies, standards, and procedures.
The role is responsible for provisioning, deployment, configuration, and administration of network and security hardware and software, including firewalls, routers, switches, virtual private networks (VPNs), web filtering systems, and data loss prevention (DLP) platforms.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in the development and execution of a security governance board.
- Provide security engineering expertise for enterprise IT projects, including implementation of new and existing security controls, baselines, and systems integration.
- Support day‑to‑day operations of the network security infrastructure.
- Lead disaster recovery and business continuity engineering planning.
- Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for network security hardware and software installation and operations.
- Perform and review highly complex network security operational activities and projects.
- Analyze complex procedures and recommend improvements.
- Provide detailed technical guidance to staff and stakeholders.
- Demonstrates deep expertise in network security technologies within complex enterprise environments.
- Experienced with network diagramming software, preferably Microsoft Visio.
- Works effectively both independently and collaboratively with technical and non‑technical teams.
- Proactively identifies risks and implements solutions before issues escalation.
- Adapts quickly in fast‑paced, high‑pressure environments.
- Possesses strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

- Two years of experience as an Information Technology Systems Specialist involving database management and online telecommunications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
- Final candidates are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the position
- This position requires compliance with Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background standards, including fingerprinting and criminal history review
In addition to the minimum qualifications:
- Experience conducting compliance audits related to security patching, software updates, endpoint protection, and vulnerability remediation
- Experience evaluating business systems for cybersecurity risk and reporting findings
- Experience analyzing network traffic using packet capture tools such as Wireshark
- Experience managing enterprise‑class firewalls with strong knowledge of network protocols and technologies
- Experience managing projects and maintaining network security infrastructure in large‑scale enterprise environments
- Experience with IDS/IPS and log correlation tools
- Experience working with web filtering and web proxy technologies
- Experience using vendor‑provided threat intelligence platforms to monitor, assess, and mitigate vulnerabilities
