About This Position
The Phoenix Fire Department (PFD) Technical Services section is a customer service-driven section that provides technical solutions to PFD and 16 fire and medical agencies, servicing 29 jurisdictions across the Phoenix Metro Region. The Technical Services section provides technology planning, implementation, and support for specific applications and systems required to meet the growing needs of the PFD and its dispatch partners.
ThisPosition
- Works Monday through Friday, normal work hours , and may work more than forty (40) hours without additional compensation to perform assigned duties, which can include weekends, evenings, early morning hours, and/or holidays.
- Participates in a 24/7 on‑call standby rotation to support the operational needs of PFD.
- Requires the use of a City vehicle for field support activities.
- Currently reports to the following work location: 150 S. 12th St. Phoenix, AZ 85034.
- Due to the nature of Phoenix Fire Department operations, this role is 100% in‑person without a hybrid/teleworking option.
- Design, implement, and manage Cisco Catalyst, Cisco Nexus, and Palo Alto Networks based network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and firewalls for the Fire Department's CAD network.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, ensuring high availability and performance of the network.
- Perform network configurations, upgrades, and patch management on network devices.
- Monitor network performance and conduct routine network health checks to identify and mitigate issues proactively.
- Provide technical leadership, supervision, and mentorship to network engineers and other team members.
- Collaborate and foster relationships with other City departments to support network‑related projects, deployment of new services, and technologies including management of third‑party vendors.
- Conduct capacity planning, performance analysis, and assist in the development of network scalability strategies.
- Work with network monitoring tools to track and analyze network traffic and performance metrics.
- Ensure network security best practices are followed and recommend enhancements to safeguard the network from vulnerabilities and threats.
- Work on‑site at Fire and Partner facilities located throughout the metro area to perform/coordinate equipment installation/repair and define needs for copper and fiber premise cabling and access control/CCTV systems.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation on network architecture, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service for, including communicating with and managing expectations of, Fire Department staff, vendors, stakeholders, and partners.
- Assist the IT Manager in developing annual operating budget and Capital Improvement Plan for network infrastructure components.
- Perform other duties as related to information technology systems.
- Pay Range: $93,121.60 to $131,040 annually.
- Hiring Range: $93,121.60 to $124,800 annually.
- Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
