Web Developer / Website Accessibility & CMS Specialist (WCAG 2.2)

Position DescriptionThis CMS allows staff to update content, create or remove pages, manage events and articles, update images and graphics, and publish alerts. The site’s wireframe and color scheme are managed separately by Tyler Technologies.
The agency currently uses Acquia Optimize and Level Access to assess and track website accessibility, quality, and policy compliance.
Scope of WorkUnder the supervision of the Assistant Director of IT and the Deputy Assistant Director of Communications, Research and Marketing
, the contractor will perform website updates through the CMS to bring the agency’s websites into WCAG 2.2 (Level A and AA) compliance
.
- Use Acquia Optimize to identify accessibility, quality control, and policy issues, including WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA violations, broken links, and broken images.
- Implement approved fixes directly within the CMS, following guidance from the Deputy Assistant Director.
- Compile and document issues that require vendor intervention and submit them to the Assistant Director of IT for coordination with Tyler Technologies
. - Monitor the website continuously for additional accessibility improvements and provide recommendations.
- Collaborate with Tyler Technologies during website releases aimed at fixing accessibility or functional issues.
- Perform post-release validation to ensure accessibility compliance and overall website functionality.
- Maintain clear documentation of fixes, recommendations, and outstanding issues.
- 48 WCAG Level A issues
- 24 WCAG Level AA issues
- Multiple pages with broken links or images requiring remediation
- HTML & CSS – Structuring and styling accessible web pages
- Responsive Design – Ensuring usability across devices and screen sizes
- Version Control (Git) – Tracking changes and collaboration
- Backend Fundamentals – Basic understanding of servers, databases, and APIs (Node.js, SQL, etc.)
- Testing & Debugging – Identifying and resolving code and content issues
- Web Performance Optimization – Improving site speed and load times
- Security Awareness – Applying best practices to mitigate vulnerabilities
- Experience remediating websites to WCAG 2.1 or 2.2 standards
- Familiarity with Acquia Optimize or similar accessibility tools
- Experience working with CMS-based websites and vendor-managed platforms
- Strong documentation and communication skills
