The Role
- Manage and maintain enterprise batch scheduling environments using CA7 and/or TWS
- Define, schedule, and monitor batch jobs, calendars, and workflows across multiple LPARs
- Configure job dependencies (time-based, event-based, predecessor/successor relationships) to ensure correct execution sequencing
- Troubleshoot scheduling issues, including delays, dependency failures, and system constraints
- Implement and maintain scheduling standards, naming conventions, and operational procedures
- Coordinate with application, infrastructure, and operations teams for batch cycle changes
- Perform schedule simulation and validation before production deployment
- Manage special scheduling requirements such as time zones, daylight savings, and regional variations
- Maintain housekeeping jobs (archive, cleanup, backups, reporting) to ensure scheduler stability
- Document scheduling processes, workflows, and recovery procedures
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in mainframe batch scheduling / production control
- Proven experience handling critical batch cycles in enterprise environments
- Strong hands‑on experience with CA7 Workload Automation
- Strong hands‑on experience with IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS)
- Solid knowledge of IBM z/OS, JES2/3, SDSF
- Solid knowledge of JCL (Job Control Language)
- Batch processing and job lifecycle management
- Understanding of job dependencies, triggers, calendars, and scheduling cycles
- Dataset/resource contention handling
- Experience in production support and incident management (Service Now or equivalent)
- Monitoring tools and alert handling
- Experience with other schedulers (Control‑M, ESP, Autosys)
- Knowledge of REXX or automation scripting
- Exposure to mainframe modernization or Dev Ops initiatives
- Understanding of enterprise batch environments in banking/financial systems
- Exposure to high‑volume batch processing and regulatory workloads
- Experience with batch automation with web‑based workflows
- Experience with Batch Optimization projects
