Position Overview

As a Software Engineering Manager for PNC’s Site Reliability Engineering Center, you will work within PNC’s Information Technology Group and be located at an IT Hub in Denver, CO or Phoenix, AZ. You will manage the twilight shift (Mon‑Fri 11:00pm‑7:00am, EST) and lead a 24x7 production support model, ensuring seamless handoffs, global support continuity, and high‑availability across PNC’s mission‑critical platforms.

• Lead a 24x7 production support model; manage team participation in an on‑call rotation, oversee incident bridges, war rooms, and escalations, and support pod‑based operating models.
• Drive customer‑centric service improvements, implement proactive reliability practices, foster cross‑functional collaboration, enhance monitoring and observability, promote a blameless culture, and reduce operational toil through automation.
• Manage and coach SRE and related teams, set clear goals, drive accountability, partner with stakeholders, support talent development, performance management, and succession planning, and encourage innovation and continuous learning.
• Lead incident management and remediation for major (P1/P2) incidents, guide real‑time triage and troubleshooting across application, infrastructure, and network layers, and oversee post‑incident analysis, reporting, and documentation.
• Provide technical leadership in production support, serve as an escalation point for complex issues, guide troubleshooting across applications, infrastructure (Linux/Windows), databases (Oracle, SQL), and middleware, and oversee batch/ETL monitoring and recovery.
• Drive problem management and root‑cause analysis, ensure resolution of problem records, and partner with engineering to deliver permanent fixes and systemic improvements.
• Oversee change management and release execution, validate readiness, testing, rollback strategies, and represent the team in CAB reviews and post‑implementation reviews.
• Advance monitoring, alerting, and observability, build and optimize monitoring dashboards, champion tools such as Dynatrace, Big Panda, Logscale, and improve signal‑to‑noise ratios.
• Champion resiliency, stability, and availability, ensure high availability of critical systems, oversee disaster recovery, failover, and continuity testing, and drive improvements in MTTR, uptime, and reliability.
• Enable scalability and performance optimization, guide capacity planning, performance tuning, and partner with development teams for performance‑driven design.
• Drive automation and operational efficiency, implement automation for incident remediation, monitoring, deployment, and validation, and promote standardized runbooks and automation frameworks.
• Ensure governance, risk, and compliance, maintain adherence to enterprise policies, support audits and vulnerability remediation, and champion security, access management, and data governance.

• 5+ years of related experience and 3+ years in management.
• Strong experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Production Support, or Dev Ops.
• Proven ability to lead teams in high‑availability, enterprise environments.
• Deep understanding of incident, problem, and change management frameworks.
• Hands‑on knowledge of monitoring tools, cloud/infrastructure platforms, and automation.
• Experience improving system reliability, observability, and operational maturity.
• Strong communication skills for high‑pressure leadership.
• Experience with OCP (Linux/Windows), MongoDB, Cassandra, Oracle, SQL, Elasticsearch, Redis, MQ, and Kafka (plus).
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; military service considered.
• Prior managerial experience of at least 3 years.
• Proficiency in Agile development, application delivery, coaching, design thinking, IT environment, software process improvement, and system testing.
