Privacy/Compliance Specialist

Required Skills & Experience
- Must have 3+ years working within Privacy/Compliance focused roles within Public Sector such as local/state government, city municipality, etc.

  • Must have AT LEAST one of the following IAPP certifications: CIPP, CIPM, CIPT or AIGP.
  • Must have familiarity and experience working with HIPPA data, policies and standards, as well as experience doing things such as HIPPA gap assessment or remediation efforts from a privacy/compliance perspective.
  • Detail oriented and able to identify risks in complex data flows.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communicator who can translate privacy requirements into practical guidance.
  • Comfortable working with cross functional teams (IT, Legal, Security, HR, Operations).
  • Proactive and able to anticipate potential privacy issues before they arise.
  • Familiar with privacy regulations and willing to stay current as laws evolve.
  • High integrity and commitment to protecting sensitive information.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Familiarity with CGIS framework.

Job Description

  • Analyze business processes, data flows, and systems to identify privacy risks and gaps.
  • Support compliance with data protection laws such as COPPA, FERPA, HIPAA, and organizational policies.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs).
  • Maintain inventories of personal data and processing activities.
  • Review new projects, vendors, and technologies for privacy risk.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining privacy policies, notices, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure privacy controls are implemented.
  • Monitor and track privacy incidents; support investigations and remediation efforts.
  • Help prepare for audits and assessments related to data protection and privacy compliance.
  • Educate and guide teams on privacy requirements, best practices, and risk reduction strategies.
