Position OverviewSeeking an experienced Database Manager to lead the administration, performance, security, and reliability of a Microsoft SQL Server environment. This role provides technical leadership to a small database/reporting team while working with IT, security, and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Manage SQL Server availability, performance, capacity, backups, recovery, and disaster recovery
. - Troubleshoot complex performance issues involving execution plans, indexing, statistics, blocking, and resource utilization.
- Design and maintain high-availability solutions
, including Always On, failover clustering, replication, and log shipping. - Establish database security, access controls, encryption, auditing, and compliance practices.
- Automate database administration, maintenance, and deployment processes using Power Shell and related tools
. - Oversee SSIS/SSRS
, reporting, ETL, and data integration activities. - Lead database incidents, root-cause analysis, documentation, and operational improvements.
- Supervise and provide technical direction to database and reporting/ETL staff.
- Manage vendors, licensing, technical projects, and after-hours escalation as needed.
- 7+ years of Microsoft SQL Server administration in production environments.
- 2+ years of technical leadership or supervisory experience
. - Strong experience with SQL Server, T-SQL, Always On, backup/recovery, SQL Server Agent, and performance tuning
. - Working knowledge of SSIS and SSRS
. - Experience with Power Shell automation
. - Understanding of Windows Server, storage, and virtualization as they relate to database performance.
- Experience with database security and audited or regulated environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and occasional after-hours maintenance
.
- Power BI or SSAS experience.
- SQL Server migrations and upgrades.
- Redgate, Solar Winds/Sentry One, Idera, dbatools, or similar tools.
- Experience establishing or improving a database administration function.
- Review schema design and data model changes prior to production release
