Overview

Liberty Mutual has an immediate opening for a Workers Compensation Claims Manager role. The Claim Team Manager leads a team of Claims Specialists who manage a portfolio of workers‑compensation claims to achieve the best possible outcomes and deliver an exceptional customer experience.

to Office Requirements

If you reside within 50 miles of a Commercial Claims office, you will be required to go to the office twice a month (subject to change).

Location Preference

Due to customer needs, the selected person must be located in the West Coast (OR, CA or AZ preferred).

Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily operations for the claims staff, establishing priorities, scheduling, assigning work, and coaching employees in reviewing, analyzing, investigating, negotiating, and settling claims in compliance with Claims Quality Standards.
  • Create a high‑performing, results‑oriented staff through candidate selection, onboarding, ongoing development, and managing individual performance with regular coaching focused on behavior and technical skill sets.
  • Lead and actively contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring utilization of tools and behaviors within the Liberty Management System to foster critical thinking and innovation around problem solving and standard work development.
  • Build and maintain internal and external customer relationships, serving as the primary point of contact for agents, brokers and policyholders.
  • Host and facilitate in‑person and/or telephonic claim reviews on a continuous cycle and ensure Special Service Instructions are managed appropriately.
  • Present to existing and prospective customers as needed.
  • Provide management oversight of claims files, reviewing open inventory, and discussing individual training and development needs.
  • Coach to improve technical expertise within the team.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and approve claims reserves, settlements and payments that exceed staff authority thresholds.
  • Use reporting data analytics to monitor claim production, inventory management, financial and quality compliance and claim volume trends. Communicate team performance relating to production, achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Manage compliance within internal and external parameters, including oversight of Liberty Mutual/Helmsman state licensing compliance and adherence to fair claims practices.
  • Maintain awareness of existing and proposed legislation, court decisions and emerging trends in claims litigation to monitor team compliance with Unfair Claims Practices.
Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial casualty insurance claims investigation, loss assessment, reserving, insurance legal and regulatory environment, litigation and fraud awareness.
  • Ability to get work done through others, communicate effectively (including listening, writing clearly, giving constructive feedback, etc.), get support from above, plan and organize work, analyze and solve problems, and focus on the larger picture.
  • Knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through a BS/BA degree (or equivalent) and at least 6 years of related experience.
  • Workers compensation claims experience required.
  • Claims management or demonstrated leadership experience desired.
Pay Philosophy

The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual may include a commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
