Summary

The Research Services Specialist works with the Research Services team to deliver high‑quality research to all firm personnel. This includes complex legal research, non‑legal research, competitive intelligence, business research, and assisting the Research Services Manager in practice division outreach and training initiatives. The Specialist will contribute to the planning, development, and implementation of research services initiatives and department‑wide initiatives to deliver best‑in‑class services to the firm.

Required

Education & Experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in a law library or reference setting
  • Familiarity with relevant technology and online legal research (Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, PACER, etc.)
  • Ability to be discreet, maintain confidential information, and use sound judgment
  • Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education & Experience
  • Master's in Library Science or Master’s in Library & Information Science
  • Law firm experience
Research (65%)
  • Conduct basic legal and non‑legal research, such as case and article retrieval, ensuring consistent high level of quality and accuracy
  • Stay current on the tools, techniques, resources, and products that support legal research
  • Provide current awareness and alerting services
Practice Division Assistance (15%)
  • Support Research Services Manager in their role as Practice Division Research Expert
  • Attend practice division meetings as needed
  • Provide current awareness and alerting services
  • Maintain Practice Division Resource Guides and Recommended Routing Lists
  • Coordinate support of the Annual Resource Reviews, offering support as needed
Training & Professional Development Management (15%)
  • Coordinate orientation and training of new attorneys in general legal research resources
  • Coordinate ongoing education of attorneys and legal staff in general legal research resources
  • Collaborate with the Research Services Manager and Director of Research Systems & Services on identifying and developing training initiatives and goals for the department
  • Participate in professional development opportunities by attending conferences and/or webinars to stay informed of the latest industry developments
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for helping others improve or develop new skills
General and Administrative (5%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Travel

Some travel may be required to other firm office locations.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The employee will work in a professional, fast‑paced office environment that may require additional hours. Key physical demands include speaking and hearing, sitting and using hands and fingers, standing, walking, reaching, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, and other typical office tasks.
